Wigan Warriors head coach Matty Peet provides latest on Bevan French

Wigan Warriors will expect Bevan French to return to the country this week as the club gears up for their opening game away at Hull KR on Friday night.

French will not play in that fixture and head coach Matty Peet will not rush the fullback back into action when he does return.

“It’s definitely too early to say,” Peet said in his pre-season press conference.

“Ask me when I’ve had a week with him – not that we’re expecting any shocks as we’ve worked closely with him.

“But he had a couple of weeks where he hadn’t done a lot, so we’ll put him through the checks and give you a better update after that.

Peet has also called on his squad not to be too downhearted if they fail to beat Rovers in three days’ time.

“I’ve told the players there’s a chance it could go really well and it could go badly, but it’ll likely be somewhere in between.

“It’s about us not over-reacting at all.

“We won seven on the spin at the start of last season, don’t forget.”

Cade Cust, Kaide Ellis, Patrick Mago, Iain Thornley and Abbas Miski will all be hoping to make their competitive debuts for Wigan following their off-season moves.
