Matt Peet wants to win the Challenge Cup with Wigan Warriors – that much is obvious.
But, when talking in his pre-match press conference for the cup fixture against Salford Red Devils on Friday night, it was clear how bad he wanted to do it with his hometown club.
Alongside his own desire, Peet spoke about just how important the fans and everyone in the town is to their success.
“It’s an expectation that we perform well in all competitions,” Peet said.
“As soon as we play in a sudden death game, there is excitement – we know it means a lot to the town and to the fans of the club.
“To take the fans on any journey at the moment, that’s what motivates us.
“Every year we’ve wanted to win it, so I don’t think the expectation or pressure really changes or is enhanced.
“It’s as important to me as it is the fans, players and staff – we all want to go on that journey but there is a very determined Salford side in front of us.”
One player who will not play for Wigan this weekend is Bevan French, though he is close – as is Iain Thornley who hasn’t played since round one.
“He’s (French) not quite ready this week and same with Iain but he is working hard.
“They are getting closer and both are training hard – Bevan has trained with the team today, too.”
