Wigan Warriors handed huge boost as star half-back pens long-term contract extension

Wigan Warriors and Super League have been dealt a huge boost, with half-back Harry Smith agreeing a new long-term deal to stay at the club.

Smith, whose original contract ran until the end of 2027, has penned new terms to extend his stay at the Brick Community Stadium until the end of 2030.

Making his debut in 2019, he has gone on to make just over 150 Super League appearances for the club, and is close to reaching 700 points in the top tier, with his goal-kicking a large part of that.

A one-time World Club Challenge winner, a two-time Grand Final and three-time Challenge Cup winner, the 26-year-old has already had an incredible career so far, and after agreeing new terms, he will be hoping to add to that success in the near future.

Not only is it a boost to Wigan, but to Super League as well, who have been able to keep one of their star half-backs in the competition for a little while longer.

Harry Smith signs new Wigan Warriors contract

Commenting on his new deal, Smith said to Wigan’s club website: “I’m buzzing and would like to thank the club for this new deal, and I’m happy I can secure my future at such a great club.

“Being at Wigan since 2014, the club means a lot to me – as well as the lads and the coaching staff.

“It’s been a brilliant few years being on the winning side of things and the team bond we’ve created, and I just want that to continue so it was a bit of a no-brainer really.”

Smith added: “I’d also like to thank my partner and family who have supported me throughout my career and through this decision. I’m looking forward to what the next four years will bring for myself, the team and the Club.”

Wigan boss Matt Peet added: “We are delighted that Harry has committed the next four years of his career to Wigan. He is an outstanding player and plays an important leadership role within our team, both on and off the field.

“On a personal level, I am looking forward to continuing to work with Harry as he moves into the prime years of his career. He is highly skilled, possesses an exceptional rugby IQ, and has a competitive spirit that makes him a pleasure to work alongside every day.
