Patrick Mago wants to see Wigan Warriors attack Tuesday’s contest with Leigh Leopards at the Brick Community Stadium on Tuesday night. The Cherry and Whites have the opportunity to go two points clear at the top of the Super League table with a win, but their task is far from straightforward.
Adrian Lam’s Leopards have won their last four Super League games and as they push to give themselves a chance of making the play-offs over the final couple of months, they’ll know how important a win over their local rivals could be. Given the nature of the rearranged contest, squeezed into what is already a hectic schedule, both teams are facing the challenge of a short turnaround.
As such, whoever handles it best on the night could well prove to be victorious. Wigan’s Mago, though, is urging his teammates to take the game to Leigh and make a real statement as they bid to reclaim pole position in the race for the League Leaders’ Shield.
“No one likes losing and after back-to-back defeats it was important we got back to winning ways to boost our confidence,” Mago told Wigan’s club website. “We’ve got some work to do first but the aim now will be to follow this win up with another against Leigh on Tuesday.
“We know that it’s going to be another tough contest as Leigh always come out strong but it’s one we are all looking forward to. It will be up to us to come out firing in front of our home support with our best foot forward.”
Both sides picked up wins on Thursday night with Wigan having to dig deep and come from behind against Huddersfield Giants on home soil, while Leigh beat Castleford Tigers.
“Recovery has been the most important element in-between games,” Mago added. “It was a short turnaround from Warrington and now an even shorter one to Leigh so it’s been important that we’ve made sure we are all fit and in best health.”
