Widnes Vikings have announced the signing of Harvey Wilson from Wigan Warriors on a season-long loan for 2024.
The 19-year-old plays as a prop forward and played seven times for Oldham, on dual-registration from Wigan in 2023, scoring twice.
Wilson’s addition bolsters the Vikings’ forward options following Martyn Reilly’s ACL injury, he will now link up with new head coach Allan Coleman at the Vikings, who is a big admirer of the young Vikings
Head Coach Allan Coleman said: “It’s great to get Harvey on loan with us, he’s a player I have been watching the last 12 months and his progress has been excellent, being rewarded a full-time contract with Wigan.
“He will bring us lots of energy, and passion and is a player who plays well above his size.
“He has got the hunger to make it in the game and that is something I am keen on bringing to Widnes.”
Widnes have said: “Everyone at the Vikings welcomes Harvey to the club and can’t wait to see him pull on the shirt in 2024 as the squad continues to take shape.”
Widnes Vikings have also announced that our club statistician, Mike Healing, and club historian, Ste Fox will be taking on official roles with the club ahead of 2024.
Mike Healing has been the Vikings’ statistician since 2006, so 2024 will be his 19th season with the club. Ste Fox has been researching the history of the Vikings for around 20 years.
In his role as club statistician, Mike collates playing statistics of players who play for Widnes, not just from their time at Widnes but also career records to date.
Mike also writes the biography pages for each Vikings player on our website.
Mike said: “It’s fantastic to be brought on in an official capacity and it’s always nice to have your work recognised.
“It’s great to belong to the club and be in a recognised role.”
He added: “One of the things I remember as a child, growing up in Watford, was reading the match day programmes and going straight to the stats pages at the back.
“I’ve always been stats-oriented in my sporting interests so that is where my attraction to the role came from.”
Ste Fox provides the club with historical information and researches the key details about the Vikings’ history.
He said: “It’s around twenty years since I started seriously researching the history of the club that we now know as Widnes Vikings and I’m still discovering new information almost every week.
“I’m delighted to be carrying on that work with a formal connection to the Vikings.”
The club are delighted to have Mike and Ste come on board in an official capacity after all the work they’ve done for the club over the years.
