Wigan Warriors star Jake Wardle has spoken about the club’s need and desire to right the wrongs of Round One when they face Hull FC on Friday.
The Wigan centre has also conceded that it’s “hard not to have one eye on Vegas” with the Warriors set to head stateside to face Warrington Wolves for Round Three of Super League.
Prior to that clash on March 1st, Wigan travel to the MKM Stadium where they’ve struggled in recent years with the Black and Whites getting the better of Matt Peet’s side in the last three Super League contests at that ground.
In a stark contrast to last season as well, Wigan are the team entering the game off the back of a loss whilst John Cartwright’s side will be jubilant having shocked Catalans in the South of France.
Speaking to club media about the aims for Friday night, Wardle admitted: “Our aim is to sharpen a few things up.
“I don’t think anything could go down to effort last week, it was more the detail in attack. We’ll be going to Hull looking to fix a few of the wrongs from last week.”
Neither Wigan nor Leigh could be faulted for their effort in the Super League opener with both sides battling for every blade of grass as they drew 0-0, before the Warriors lost in golden point thanks to a Gaz O’Brien drop goal.

It was a cruel end for the hosts on a brilliant opening night of Super League that set the standard for a brilliant opening round, something that Hull FC contributed to with their shock win.
Assessing the threat in wait on Friday night, Wardle explained: “We’ve previewed Hull FC this week so we know they’ll play with a lot of effort and that they like to throw the ball around. It will be a big challenge for us, but it’s one we are looking forward to.”

He also noted the team’s poor record at the MKM Stadium, adding: “It’s going to be a tough test. We don’t have the best recent record playing there which is something we’ve highlighted. For us though our main aim is to just focus on ourselves to hopefully get the job done.”
Wardle did concede just how tough it is it give that game 100% focus though given the Las Vegas game in just over a week’s time, however, he tried to underline the importance of a solid performance and two points on Friday ahead of their groundbreaking US trip.
The centre admitted: “It’s hard not to have one eye on Vegas with the match just over a week away, but first and foremost we need to get the job done on Friday night. There’s a lot of Vegas stuff going on in the background but as players our focus is on Hull FC.”
