Wigan Warriors fans again convinced Owen Farrell is signing

Once again the rumours of Owen Farrell joining Wigan Warriors have resurfaced after the conclusion of the Rugby Union World Cup.

The rumours sparked after England were beaten by South Africa in the semi-finals, a defeat that sparked rumours that Leeds Rhinos legend Kevin Sinfield would also be leaving the England Rugby Union set up.

By now following the conclusion of the entire World Cup, with England playing one final game to secure third, the Farrell to Wigan rumours have sparked up one more time.

One fan joked saying: “Now England are out of the World Cup I expect Wigan to break the internet at 6am tomorrow with an Owen Farrell announcement.”

Meanwhile, another fan described him as: “Wigan’s new signing Owen Farrell.”

When discussing the opening fixture for the 2024 Super League season, one fan is expecting Wigan to take on Leigh Leopards with Farrell debuting: “I reckon Wigan vs Leigh, Champs vs Cup holders, local derby, pack the DW out for Owen Farrell’s debut.”

This is all fun and games on social media but unfortunately, Farrell has had his fair share of abuse on social media in recent times with many believing that his rugby league connections sometimes make him an easy target.

But his past experience made him the perfect man to support his teammate Tom Curry as he spoke to Sky Sports about his abuse on social media.

“Tom has been first class this week, like he always is. He’s one of the most honest, most hard working blokes I’ve ever played with,” England captain Farrell said.

“What isn’t understandable is the amount of abuse he’s got. The effect that has on him is the bit that I, and we, really don’t understand.

“And I know it seems to be going more and more like this, but it shouldn’t be, it shouldn’t be.

“You are dealing with people, with human beings. Just because you’re saying stuff on your phone or behind a computer screen doesn’t make it acceptable. I don’t think it’s acceptable.

“This doesn’t make me look fondly at engaging with people outside of the people that are close to you.”

If Wigan were to sign Farrell then, it seems they would be getting a terrific character and leader as well as a top notch player.
