Brad O’Neill is in line to make his return to action for Wigan Warriors this weekend when they take on Salford Red Devils.
O’Neill has been missing since rupturing his ACL while in action for the Warriors against Warrington Wolves last July. As such, he has spent the last nine months going through a gruelling and arduous rehabilitation process in order to get himself back into the Cherry and Whites’ fray.
However, the hooker has made his return to training and, after spending such a long time on the sidelines, he is set to make a playing return against the Red Devils at the Brick Community Stadium, Matt Peet has confirmed.
“He’ll play this week,” Peet said, per Serious About RL’s sister site Wigan Today. “It’s been planned for a while. He’s just trained, he’s buzzing.
“There’s a bit of that (holding him back) with Brad. His enthusiasm is one of the things we love about him, and there has been a bit of having to hold him back, but you’d rather have that than the other way, wouldn’t you?
“I think it’ll be a case of building his minutes up. It would have been good if we’d have had another game next week but we’ll work hard in training ahead to this game.”
The Wigan Warriors boss could also be heard speaking about two other concerns within the group, with Abbas Miski dropping out of the warm-up on Saturday and Jai Field missing the game completely. Peet confirmed after that defeat that Miski requires minor surgery and he won’t be fit enough to be involved against Paul Rowley’s side.
However, the head coach failed to rule out Field, with the full-back still nursing the hamstring injury he picked up in the Challenge Cup clash with Hull FC earlier this month.
