In a fast-paced start to the Super League Grand Final, Wigan Warriors star Junior Nsemba has seemingly been knocked out cold after an unfortunate tackle.
With Wigan Warriors advancing into Hull KR territory for the first time in the game the ball was shifted wide to Junior Nsemba who was chopped down by Hull KR’s James Batchelor.
Batchelor tackles Nsemba low but the six-foot five-inch frame of Super League’s Young Player of the Year inadvertently flipped in the air, seeing him land head first on the ground.
It became apparent very quickly that the Wigan youngster was not in good condition as he did not get back to his feet after the tackle, prompting markers Peta Hiku and James Batchelor to alert the medical staff.
After a brief spell of around five minutes, Nsemba was back on his feet but it’s almost certain that he will fail his Head Injury Assessment with the initial footage suggesting that the 20-year-old was knocked out cold.
Therefore he will likely fail that HIA meaning that his Grand Final is over after just 12 minutes.
That is reminiscent of Ethan Havard who had to leave the field early in 2023 after suffering a hamstring injury after just ten minutes.
Liam Byrne has been brought on to replace the Young Player of the Year with the score still 0-0 after 15 minutes of the match.
Hull KR had got over the try line but Chris Kendall deemed Tyrone May to have knocked on, something that the video referee would confirm.
Edit – Incredibly, Nsemba would come back on just over ten minutes after his scary injury.
