Wigan Warriors confirm sponsor who has been working closely with star player

Wigan Warriors have announced that Alcedo Care will sponsor their ‘futures’ programme.

The initial 1-year sponsorship deal will see Alcedo Care become the main sponsor for the futures programme in 2023, which allows players not on a Scholarship programme a route into a performance pathway.

The programme has benefitted current Wigan first team players, including Ethan Havard who was on the programme as a 15 year-old and is now a consistent starter in the first team and made his England Knights debut in 2022.

As part of the new sponsorship, First team players Ethan Havard and Junior Nsemba joined the Alcedo team at the company’s branch on Beecham Court in Wigan to drive awareness of its festive charitable initiative that aims to collect new and unused toys, toiletries and clothing which will be re-distributed to families and individuals in need in the local community before Christmas.

Alcedo’s distinctive recruitment vehicle was transformed into a festive grotto for the campaign and the company even enlisted the support of Father Christmas.

Managing Director of Alcedo Care, Andy Boardman, said: “I am delighted that we are sponsoring the Futures Programme this year, it represents a significant increase in Alcedo Care’s support for Wigan Warriors. This is something we are looking to actively increase over the coming years. Being a Wigan lad myself and having played schoolboy and club rugby around town, investing in the next generation of players who have a passion for Rugby League gives me a great sense of pride.”

Speaking on the sponsorship, Warriors Sales Director Geoff Warburton added: “Wigan Warriors are extremely pleased to welcome Andy Boardman and his team from Alcedo Care who are really getting behind the youngsters trying to forge a pathway in the game by sponsoring the Club’s “Future programme”.

“Whilst all the hype is always around the first team, this is a fantastic sponsorship looking towards the coming years and giving these kids the opportunity to develop with the Club on both Men’s and Women’s pathways.

“This is just one element of Alcedo’s greatly increased support of the club in 2023 and we look forward to them seeing them at future first team games and also in and around the events of the Futures programme.”

Wigan Warriors Head of Youth, Shane Eccles, said: “This sponsorship and support will improve our development pathway for players in 2023. We will be able to enhance what is already a strong player development programme to further the skills of Young players in Wigan and surrounding areas. We would like to thank Alcedo Care for their support of this programme which can make a big impact on the development of our players in our sport and help to develop and create our ‘future’ first team players.”
