Wigan Warriors swept aside Leigh Leopards with a 38-0 win on their way to the Grand Final but it’s still unclear if they’ll have captain Liam Farrell available for the match.
Farrell was the big name missing out when the team sheet was announced with the veteran second-rower’s absence then explained by Wigan boss Matt Peet.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game, Peet was asked why the club captain was missing and he provided an uncertain update.
Peet explained: “He’s had a virus for the last couple of weeks and he needs to pass a few more tests until we put him out in the game.
“If he comes through them, then potentially next week he could be okay but we’ve got to do the right thing for Liam.”
Farrell will be thankful that his teammates did their job as they dispatched Leigh Leopards with ease to cement their place in the Grand Final, meaning that if the Wigan Warriors captain passes fit then he will be playing for his sixth Super League win.
The second-rower has had a strong 2024 campaign but failed to make the Super League Dream Team in 2024, ending his five-year reign in the team.
It was Sam Walters who replaced Farrell in the second-row and the former Leeds Rhinos man put on a show as he scored two tries and earned Man of the Match honours.
Liam Marshall also doubled up whilst each of the dynamic duo of French and Field scored one apiece, with both of those scores being spectacular individual efforts.
Wigan Warriors now progress to Old Trafford to face Hull KR with question marks still remaining over whether Liam Farrell will feature or not.
