Wigan Warriors enjoyed an incredibly tough 19-18 win at home against Hull FC tonight.
It was topsy-turvy from start to finish as Wigan raced into a 6-0 lead only to be pegged back 12-6 at half-time.
Hull once more raced into a 18-12 lead, but Jai Field’s individual brilliance brought the Warriors back level and then Harry Smith slotted over the winning drop-goal with a minute to go.
For Wigan head coach Matty Peet, he was glad to get the win.
“The table doesn’t mean too much at the moment,” Peet said.
“We think Hull are a really strong side, and it was two evenly strong sides.
“Our defensive endeavour was good and the defence was good I was a bit frustrated with our attack as we didn’t move the ball enough but that’s what happens when a team takes the energy out of you.”
Peet identified where he felt the battle was won on the night.
“We’re young and light which has its strengths and weaknesses.
“But Hull are strong and powerful so when we got injuries we had the likes of Oliver Partington and Ethan Havard who are very fit, the just need to stop giving penalties away!”
