Wigan Warriors are set to be without one of their talismanic figures for a few months.
That’s according to head coach Matty Peet who confirmed that halfback Tommy Leuluai has suffered a high-grade MCL injury.
“We’ve not had absolute clarity on it yet from the specialist but we are looking at a few months,” Peet told Wigan Today
“The depth of everyone’s squad is going to be tested at the moment. We pride ourselves on our junior development, so we don’t expect standards to slip.”
Wigan will host Salford Red Devils at the DW Stadium this weekend, with the Warriors picked for broadcast on Channel 4.
It will be the first time that the Lancashire club – and Salford themselves – have been picked by terrestrial television following the broadcaster’s decision to cover ten games from the Super League season and play-offs.
Much has been said of Channel 4’s coverage of the sport, with the likes of host Adam Hills and pundits Leon Pryce and Sam Tomkins impressing greatly.
The coverage reached over a quarter of a million viewers on its first day when Leeds Rhinos hosted Warrington Wolves at Headingley, but it will be interesting to see how many viewers a Sunday lunchtime fixture will yield.
