Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has confirmed some big Bevan French news ahead of a trip to Perpignan.
The Warriors will be aiming to keep up with Hull KR, currently ahead of them in the table on points difference, and the two sides face each other next week in what could be the biggest game of the season yet.
Liam Marshall has been named in the squad following a head collision, and Peet said, via Wigan Today in a press conference:
“It was a decent cut, but he’s good.
“The fact is he came back on during the game, and the way it was bandaged was protected enough.
“If anything, he seems to have been more of a joker than ever this week. It’s brought the best out of him.”
Huge boost for Wigan Warriors confirmed as Bevan French call made
However, the biggest news is that Bevan French will return to action.
He has been out with a hamstring injury for almost two months – last playing in a 24-6 victory against Leigh Leopards.
However, Peet has now confirmed: “He’ll play.
“He’s been excellent from the start. Even almost within an hour of the injury, we had a really positive conversation and spoke about how he can look after himself during this period so he can best hit the ground running for the back-end of this year.
“It’s almost as if sometimes the game forces a rest at the right time, and that’s how he framed it, and hopefully it pays him back down the line.
“He’s in good shape and looks good, but we have to be smart (with his return).”
During Bevan French’s absence, Jack Farrimond has played well in his first season of Super League action, but French, the 2023 Man of Steel, will certainly be a welcome addition to the side in what is a vital moment in the season.
