Wigan Warriors boss Matt Peet has clarified the situation regarding Jack Farrimond, who left the action early in this evening’s win over Wakefield Trinity.
Farrimond started in the halves in the 48-10 win, and played 50 minutes before switching with the returning Bevan French.
French played the final 30 minutes, but Farrimond would get a second stint at hooker, replacing Brad O’Neill for the final 10 minutes.
However, he would be substituted again with minutes to go, and boss Peet has now explained that it was actually his gumshield that flagged up, forcing him off for a HIA.
He said: “We were all perplexed. He’d only been on two seconds. I don’t think he made a tackle.

Commenting on the win overall, Peet said: “[I’m] Proud of the performance. The result was an important one for us. We recognise Wakefield were missing a few, particularly across the back line.
“We’ve started to get the start of the game right. They’ve got a formidable pack, and there’s another group of formidable players on the bench, and it was important that we dealt with that.”
“…We don’t get too carried away, but we’re certainly proud of the performance, and we got to play some good stuff. Some of that’s probably owing to Wakefield having a few personnel missing and players playing out of position.”
The start was the most pleasing thing for Peet, and with Wakefield not leaving the changing rooms until 10 minutes into the game, metaphorically, the Challenge Cup champions were able to capitalise early on.
“The starts of these games, if you don’t get them right, teams like Wakefield, they’ve still got some quality players there and a very powerful forward pack.
“If we hadn’t dealt with that well, then we create an opening. It’ll be a very different night, so it’s important that we got the foundation of our game in place.”
