Wigan Warriors have confirmed assistant coach Paul Deacon has committed his future to the Cherry and Whites.
Deacon re-joined Wigan and the 13-man code last month after a 10-year spell in rugby union and he has now put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the club.
That means the 46-year-old will be working behind the scenes at Wigan until the end of the 2028 season at least, in a deal that sees the Warriors strengthen their backroom team even further.
Deacon spent time at Bradford Bulls and Wigan as a player and won four Super League Grans Finals during his 15-year career. He retired as a player in 2011 and stepped into coaching at the Brick Community Stadium, while also helping out under Steve McNamara with England.
He made the switch to Sale Sharks in 2015 as an attack and skills coach before taking up the head coach role at the club in December 2020.
He left that position at the end of the last Premiership season, though, and he has now returned to Wigan, where he will be for the next few years.
Wigan Warriors tie coach down
“It feels like I’m home,” Deacon told the Wigan Warriors website. “I’ve spent some time now in the other code but it’s great to be back and I’m made up to be staying longer.”
Head coach Matt Peet added: “It was a no-brainer. When he became available the conversation between myself and Kris Radlinski was a short one. He’s a great coach first and foremost, but he’s also a really quality man.”
Deacon will be hoping to make an immediate impact at the Brick Community Stadium, with the Warriors just 80 minutes away from securing another Grand Final appearance as they hunt for their first silverware of the season.
