Wigan Warriors’ Bevan French to return to the club next week

Wigan Warriors star Bevan French will return to the club next week, head coach Matty Peet revealed at the Super League launch.

French has been away in Australia on compassionate leave following the passing of his mother, but the livewire fullback is ready to fly back for a huge season.

“I’ve spoken to him a couple of times, and he’s back next week,” Peet said.

“We are pleased and excited – we are looking forward to putting our arm round him, because he’s still coming out of a terrible period of his life.”

Despite the excitement surrounding French’s return, the fullback will not be rushed back onto the field after such a harrowing period of his life.

“It’s important that we give him a proper pre-season and don’t rush him back,” Peet continued.

“Even though it will be tempting to do that, we will stick to the plan to get his body and mind right so when he does play, he will hit the ground running and have a strong, stable season.”

Wigan fans will be hoping for a better end to their Super League season than the one they had in 2021 when, despite finishing fourth, they crashed out of the play-offs at the first time of asking.
