Wigan Warriors’ Bevan French reportedly linked with shock UK move – but not to Hull FC

If there is one man’s future that has been the focal point of rugby league fans in 2022, it is that of Wigan Warriors star Bevan French.

The livewire Australian has been in incredible form this season, forming a seriously effective partnership with fellow Aussie Jai Field to cause Super League sides increasing havoc throughout the year.

However, French’s future is still yet to be sorted .

During the season, a link to Hull FC has been touted whilst a move back home has also been doing the rounds, with Wigan also said to be preparing a deal for him to stay at the DW Stadium.

And, in last Thursday night’s Sky Sports studio for when Leeds Rhinos took on Wigan at Headingley, pundit Brian Carney revealed the latest on French’s future: “The Wigan Warriors are lining up massive deal to keep him at the DW stadium. And why wouldn’t they?”

If so, it would be a major news story for the Warriors and certainly a signing that will put even more bums on seats for 2023.

Head coach Matt Peet had previously said this on the subject: “We are in constant communication with Bevan,” Peet told Wigan Today.

“They’re not very complicated discussions, they are just open and honest. We know where his head is at, and he knows where we are at, so we will just continue to talk.

“We will probably sit down again soon and make it a bit more formal.”

But, that hasn’t stopped one rumour page on Twitter claiming that French has been offered a massive deal by Leigh Centurions.

It had been speculated before that owner Derek Beaumont had attempted to pull in the former Parramatta Eels star, but the Wigan club had rejected that notion.

However, with the Rugby League In The Know page getting the signings of both Blake Ferguson and Lachlan Lam correct in recent months, where Leigh is concerned, the stories have all turned out true.

Of course, French is an incredible talent and is the envy of any rival side in the UK, but imagine the team that Leigh would have if they could lure the playmaker to the Leigh Sports Village.
