Wigan Warriors 19-18 Hull FC: Highlights, player ratings & talking points

Wigan Warriors took on Hull FC tonight at the DW Stadium in a rip-roaring affair.

Hull were leading 12-6 at half-time, but Wigan quickly came back after the break to level 12-12 once more.

However, the Black and Whites extended their lead through Chris Satae, but that man Jai Field registered another superb effort to make it 18-18.

Then, it was left for Harry Smith to slot over the winning drop-goal with two minutes to go.

Highlights

Joe Lovodua’s inside pass to Danny Houghton for the latter to score was an absolute beauty.

Jai Field once again scored a brilliant individual try, scything his way through the Hull defence.

Harry Smith’s drop-goal from distance was a brilliant shot.

Talking points

1. Joe Lovodua – the signing of the season?

It’s a bold statement, but Lovodua has been incredible this season for Hull so far after making the move to the MKM Stadium as a relatively unknown quantity. The Fijian international can play anywhere along the backline as well as in the pack and he had a stellar game in the halves alongside Luke Gale.

2. Field out of nothing

Wigan were down 18-12, but then up stepped Jai Field who cut his way through the Hull defence to round Jake Connor in his typical livewire fashion. Field really is making up for lost time after missing almost all of the 2021 season with injury.

3. What a game!

It was back and forth all game with Wigan and Hull both looking to be in the driving seat until a piece of magic or an error helped the opponent regain the momentum.
