Wigan v Warrington: Predicted line-ups and late injury news

In one of the biggest games of any season, Wigan host Warrington in a battle between third and fourth in the table. After winning seven on the bounce to start the season, Wigan have slipped down the standings after three consecutive defeats. Meanwhile, Warrington appear on the up. The Wire defeated Champions St Helens and many are tipping them to down the runners-up too.

The big question for Wigan is the fullback spot. On Monday it was revealed that Bevan French would miss the rest of the season. Zak Hardaker may have served his suspension following an incident against Catalans but misses this one through a neck injury. Thus, Jackson Hastings – who returns triumphantly following success with the Combined Nations – could take over at fullback as he did against Hull KR. The alternative is Liam Marshall who played there against Wakefield. Liam Farrell will return to the back-row after two tries for England but there’ll be no such return for John Bateman following his injury in the international. That could see Kai Pearce-Paul keep his place in the 17.

Warrington have similar issues in the spine. There’s doubts over Blake Austin at stand-off whilst Gareth Widdop definitely misses out. That could see Stefan Ratchford feature in the halves having played there for England on Friday. With Ratchford at scrum-half, youngster Josh Thewlis will likely keep his place at fullback after impressing against Leigh. Fellow youngster Connor Wrench should also remain at centre as Toby King and Greg Inglis continue their recoveries. Danny Walker will at least be relegated to the bench but Thursday’s Man of the Match could be dropped completely if Steve Price wants more size on the bench.
