Wigan v St Helens: Predicted line-ups and late injury news

On the back of defeats last week, Wigan and St Helens clash in one of rugby league’s biggest derbies and a Grand Final rematch. Champions St Helens need a win to stay in touch with the top of the table whilst Wigan are desperate to cement their place in the play-offs.

The Warriors however will have to do so without hooker Sam Powell after a head knock last week leaving Adrian Lam with a conundrum at nine. Wigan have a number of options in the position. Joe Shorrocks played there last week after coming off the bench, youngster Amir Bourouh is in the squad but I believe Lam may throw a curveball at the Saints and name Jackson Hastings at hooker. Wigan’s talisman has impressed there in the past and such a decision would enable Jai Field and Harry Smith to start in the halves alongside each other. The Warriors will also be boosted by the return of Ollie Partington and John Bateman in the pack.

Speaking of packs, Kristian Woolf is spoilt for choice when it comes to forwards thanks to the return of Morgan Knowles and Jake Wingfield. Knowles will likely return to loose forward prompting Sione Mata’utia to move to the bench. Despite an impactful stint off the bench against Castleford, James Bentley will remain amongst the substitutes as Joe Batchelor continues to impress in the backrow. Looking at the backs, Woolf will be sweating on the fitness of Regan Grace whilst Tommy Makinson misses out through suspension.
