Wigan v Leeds: Predicted line-ups and late injury news

Last week we were treated to a round of huge games, and the seismic clashes just keep on coming as Wigan welcome Leeds to the DW Stadium Stadium. For the Warriors it’s a case of going from a rematch of the most recent Grand Final into a rematch of the very first Grand Final back in 1998. Wigan won’t want to lose both and will be desperate to cement their play-off spot. Meanwhile, Leeds need a win to stay in touch with the top six.

Wigan have a number of problems to solve ahead of tonight’s game. Not only are they without Thomas Leuluai and Bevan French, but key man Willie Isa has dropped out through suspension. Adrian Lam will have to re-jig his backrow with Liam Farrell likely moving to the centres to replace Isa. John Bateman, after winning the tribunal against his suspension, will move from the bench into the backrow. Sam Powell could return but otherwise Joe Shorrocks will remain at nine. There’s a conundrum to solve on the bench as well. Will Lam go with livewire Jai Field or natural nine Amir Bourouh? Could he even play both? After all he could very well be forced to name an extra forward or two in his starting side.

As for Leeds, they’re boosted by the return of Rhyse Martin, Matt Prior, Cameron Smith and Jack Broadbent to their 21-man squad. Oddly, Broadbent could be the most important returnee should Ash Handley not be fit enough to feature on the wing. Prior will return to the front row as Zane Tetevano moves back to loose-forward meaning Jarrod O’Connor could be dropped despite some impressive performances at 13. Martin will join exciting youngster Morgan Gannon in the backrow prompting James Donaldson to move to the bench. He could be joined by Brad Dwyer despite his recent illness. However, there’s a chance Dwyer could start should Kruise Leeming move into the halves but Callum McLelland’s impressive showing against Huddersfield could see him remain at seven.
