Wigan to hold talks with George Williams

Adrian Lam says Wigan Warriors will hold talks with Canberra Raiders half-back George Williams over a potential return in 2022.

Much has been made of Williams’ admission that he is homesick after being separated from friends and family in the UK due to the coronavirus pandemic. And, despite Canberra’s determination to keep hold of the halfback, home is where the heart is.

If Williams was to return to Super League, Wigan boss Lam says he would want to speak to him about the possibility of rejoining the Warriors.

“George is a Wigan lad; I knew he’d miss home at some stage because his close friends are here and he’s well integrated with this club,” Lam told the PA Media.

“It makes sense that as a club, we’ll be talking to him and we’ll see what happens from there.”

Williams has made 29 appearances for the Raiders since joining ahead of the 2020 season, but had previously racked up 178 in a Wigan shirt over a period of seven seasons.
