Adrian Lam confirmed at Wigan’s press conference that Bevan French will not play against Leigh round one, whilst Oliver Gildart, Jai Field and Jackson Hastings are also doubtful.
French hasn’t returned to Lancashire yet, with the playmaker still in Australia seeing his family, whilst Hastings will be considered for selection later in the week.
“He’ll be in the country in the next couple of days, then we’ll assess the situation and move forward from there,” said Lam.
“Bevan won’t be considered in round one, and Jackson we’ll make a decision later on this week.”
With French and Hastings out and doubtful respectively, Lam has a lack of playmakers available. And, that has been made worse by the potential absence of Jai Field who has been suffering with a back spasm injury. Oliver Gildart is also doubtful with a groin/abductor problem.
“There’s some doubt over Gildart,” said Lam. “Jai has to get through this week, having to make sure he’s up to speed with everything we’ve done, we’ll make a decision (later).”
Dom Manfredi and Liam Marshall are also sidelined for Wigan, with the latter out until May or June.
