Wigan squad member on drink-driving charge

Wigan Warriors squad player Craig Mullen has been charged with drink-driving the club has confirmed.

A brief statement on the club’s website stated that the player is co-operating with Police, but they will be making no further comment until the investigation is concluded.

It is believed it relates to an incident on Sunday evening but no further details have been released.

It has been an annus horribilis so far for the 2018 Super League champions and this latest news couldn’t have come at a worse time for the club.

Mullen is yet to play this year but did make two appearances for the Warriors in 2018.

The full statement reads:

Wigan Warriors confirm that they are aware of an incident involving Craig Mullen on Sunday evening (24th March) which has seen the player charged for driving with excess alcohol. The player is co-operating with the Police investigation. Wigan Warriors will allow the legal process to take its course and the Club will be issuing no further comment at this time.
