Wigan receive injury blows

Wigan Warriors have confirmed Zak Hardaker will be out for a few weeks after suffering a bulging disc in training.

Hardaker had just completed a two-game suspension for headbutting Catalans Dragons fullback Sam Tomkins during Wigan’s defeat in Perpignan.

However, Head Coach Adrian Lam has confirmed he has suffered the setback in training.

He said: “In the last couple of weeks, he seems to have formed an issue with a vertebrae in his neck, or the higher part of back which is causing some referred pain- pins and needles.

“We’ve had some scans on that, and it seems he will be another two or three weeks out minimum because of it.

“It’s not good news for us. But we have to err on the side of making sure he is OK. It’s in an area which is very dangerous.”

This comes on the back of the news Bevan French will miss the rest of the season with a torn hamstring. The club have confirmed he has returned to Australia, but has also exercised his contract extension. This means he will be at the club for the 2022 season.

Lam also confirmed John Bateman will go for scans later today on the ankle injury he picked up during England’s midseason test against the Combined Nations All Stars.
