Wigan lodge appeal against points deduction

Super League Champions Wigan have submitted a formal appeal against their two point deduction for breaking the salary cap during the 2017 season.

The Warriors went over the cap by 0.8% percent (£14,000) due to an administrative error halfway through an injury-ravaged season, ending the campaign in sixth position.

However, the RFL docked Wigan two points a day before this season and Chairman Ian Lenagan has now submitted the club’s appeal after receiving the written judgement.

“We have formally appealed now,” He told Wigan Today.

“We are trying to do it quickly, both we and the RFL want it done as soon as possible. We’re appealing on two different issues, and so we’ll see how we go.”

The hearing is expected to be heard in the next three weeks in either London or Manchester, with external body Sports Resolutions to decide on the case.
