Wigan hooker joins hometown club on loan

Halifax Panthers have announced the signing of Wigan Warriors hooker Amir Bourouh on a season long loan ahead of the 2021 season.

The 20 year old represented local amateur side Siddal in his junior days, before catching the attention of Wigan who then awarded him with an academy contract at the age of just 14.

Bourouh then progressed to the Wigan U19’s side where he would go on to score 13 tries in 36 appearances over a two year spell in 2018 & 2019.

After making his Wigan first team debut in 2019 against Salford Red Devils, Bourouh then went on to become an Academy Grand Final winner in their 22-10 victory over St. Helens at the DW Stadium.

He said: “I’m buzzing and honoured to have the opportunity to play for my hometown club for the season. I can’t wait to get going and hopefully I can add something to the exciting side Simon has built.”

Head Coach Simon Grix added: “Amir is a local product on his way up in the game and circumstances dictate he needs somewhere to continue his development as he attempts to build on the positive performances he had for Wigan in 2020.

“He is quick out of dummy half and aggressive in defence with good habits from a successful environment.  I’m sure he will prove to be a good acquisition.”
