Wigan hooker banned for Super 8s opener

Wigan Warriors hooker Sam Powell has been banned for one game following an early guilty plea after being given a grade B dangerous contact charge on Lama Tasi.

The incident occurred during Wigan’s 27-14 triumph over Salford Red Devils in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup semi-final at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Powell has been a mainstay in a misfiring Wigan side this season, playing 24 games for Shaun Wane’s side.

The Warriors are currently three points shy of the playoffs but with seven games to go, most pundits will be expecting a timely surge from the reigning Super League champions.
