Wigan eyeing up Aussie halfback

Wigan have reportedly joined the race to sign Salford halfback Jackson Hastings for 2019.

The 22-year-old has made a big impression since joining Red Devils from Manly Sea Eagles in July, scoring four tries in five games.

His deal at the AJ Bell Stadium, however, only lasts until the end of the season and the club have yet to secure his services for next year.

This has prompted plenty of interest from other Super League clubs, with the Warriors among the frontrunners for his signature.

Wigan chairman Ian Lenegan has previously admitted his desire to strengthen in the halves for 2019.

They had previously been linked with Lachlan Lam, son of incoming coach Adrian, but nothing has come of that deal with the Sydney Roosters yet to confirm whether or not he is still part of their plans.

Thomas Leuluai and Sam Powell have both rotated at scrum-half this year, while George Williams and Josh Woods have also impressed at stand-off.

Jake Shorrocks is also an option in the halves but hasn’t played for Wigan since picking up a knee injury last season.
