Widnes Vikings have re-signed former academy product Tom Gilmore from Batley Bulldogs on a two-year deal

Widnes Vikings have announced the re-signing of half back Tom Gilmore on a two-year deal.

The half back has just enjoyed a successful season with the Batley Bulldogs, guiding them to the Play Off final in which they was beat by the Leigh Centurions.

Gilmore came through the Vikings academy and made 58 appearances for the club, scoring 15 tries and kicking 73 goals over a seven year span which included loans to North Wales Crusaders and London Broncos.

Since leaving Widnes he has enjoyed stints with Halifax Panthers and more recently the Batley Bulldogs making 32 appearances for the Yorkshire club in 2022.

Speaking on his return to the club where his career began, this is what Gilmore had to say;

“It’s exciting to come back. I feel like I’ve got the better years in front of me.

“When I was here growing up, I was injured a lot and didn’t play as many games as I should,” Gilmore continued. “The last couple of years, I’ve been back playing and showing everyone what I’m about.

“Hopefully I can come back with bang.”

After experiencing success with the Bulldogs this season he will be looking to go that one step further with Widnes in 2023 and take the club back to Super League.

“I know this level very well now and I’ll get the team around.

“Hopefully I can do that again next year.”

Gilmore joins Kieran Dixon and Ant Walker as the Vikings third signing this off season as John Kear continues to strengthen his squad for 2023, and with Matty Smith hanging up his boots the responsibility now passes on to Gilmore to guide the Vikings.
