Widnes have re-signed highly-rated halfback Joe Lyons on a one-year deal from 2021.
The 22-year-old has been a rising star in the Vikings’ squad for some time, having made his debut against Leeds Rhinos in 2018 and since going on to make 36 appearances.
This season he scored three tries in seven games before the season was voided due to the Covid-19 suspension and was working closely with veteran scrum-half Matty Smith, who has tipped him for big things in the future.
“I’m delighted to have signed a new contract with the club ahead of 2021,” said Lyons. “Obviously the club is close to my heart, and getting the opportunity to continue playing for my hometown club is a great honour.
“It was disappointing the way the season came to an end so early, although it was the right decision in order to keep everyone safe. My focus now is on getting myself ready for whenever we’re given the green light to return to training, and be best prepared to hit the ground running in 2021.”
