Widnes announce latest signing ahead of 2022 in the shape of Workington back

It’s not so long since Widnes were plying their trade in the Super League or even pushing their way into the play-offs as they did in 2014.

Now the mission is solely to get back to those heights and contend for promotion in 2022. A club steeped in history having played in one of the first World Club Challenges, they have no issue attracting players.

They’ve already added some serious quality to their ranks ahead of next year poaching some of Oldham’s star players including the impressive Tyler Dupree, and today the Vikings have added to their list of exciting acquisitions in the shape of Workington back Brad Holroyd on a one-year deal.

In the recent League One final, he sealed Workington Town’s promotion to the Championship with a 76th minute try against underdogs Doncaster meaning he’ll have to face his former side in the second tier next year.

The 21-year-old has huge potential and claimed League One’s Young Player of the Year award after crossing for 18 tries last season.

Speaking about the deal, Holroyd said to the club website: “I’m made up to have signed for such a big club, I can’t wait to meet up with the lads and get started.”

With brilliant try scoring prowess, speed and skill he’ll excel with the Vikings next term and could very well come back to haunt Workington as the Vikings hopefully push for a play-off place.
