Zak Hardaker’s future could be vital for Hull FC – a bizarre statement, but one that is true.
Hardaker has enjoyed something of a resurgence since making the move back to the Leeds Rhinos – where his Super League career once began – after leaving the Wigan Warriors earlier in the year.
Going quietly about his business, the fullback or centre has proved his worth to Rohan Smith with the duo getting on like a house on fire on and off the pitch.
However, with Hardaker doing so well at Headingley, it begs the question what will happen to Jack Walker?
With current Leeds Rhinos fullback Jack Walker on loan at the Black and Whites, his future largely depends on whether or not Hardaker is given another contract by Rohan Smith and Gary Hetherington at Headingley.
And, that is apparently in the early stages, according to Smith who spoke to the press earlier today.
“I’ve had preliminary chats with his agent and we will keep the ball rolling there,” Smith said.
“There is no strict timescale there and it will sort itself out as we go along.”
For Walker, a loan deal until the end of the season at the MKM Stadium has been the perfect tonic to hitting some good form and he has proved that so far with big performances in wins over Hull KR and Toulouse Olympique.
If Hardaker signs on at Headingley, that would be the biggest signal for Walker that his time at Leeds would be played in and out of the side – particularly with Richie Myler in form at the back too.
In doing so, that would play into Hodgson’s hands who has seemingly been able to deploy both Walker and maverick Jake Connor into his side’s attacking line-up with great fluidity.
And, defensively, Walker is excellent, improving the Black and Whites at the back.
