Wakefield Trinity have bolstered their forward pack after announcing the signing of NRL prop Emre Guler for the 2027 season.
Guler joins on a three-year deal, and adds strength to what is an already impressive middle unit.
He becomes Trinity’s third signing for 2027, after Daryl Powell’s side have already brought in Roger Tuivasa-Sheck from the NRL and Cameron Smith from Leeds Rhinos.
After speaking to the press earlier today, it’s clear to see why the club believe Guler will be a good fit for Trinity, with the boss revealing why the St George Illawarra man is right for them.
“We’re obviously looking at what we want to do moving forward into next year,” Powell explained. “‘Millsy’ (Ste Mills, Director of Rugby) works pretty hard in terms of picking players out and having a look at what they’re like, finding out what they’re like as people.
“Obviously looking at the data and then analysis of video and the way a player plays. Once we had a look at him, we were pretty fixed that he was the right player for us.
“Then it comes down to having a chat and seeing what they’re thinking, how they come across. He came across so, so well, as well as any player I’ve spoken to before, to be honest. Everything that we got back on him was really positive and favourable.”

How NRL prop Emre Guler fits in at Wakefield Trinity
Not only does Guler sound like he is the right person off the field, but on the field he is still performing at the highest level, and doing so on a consistent basis.
Powell continued: “He’s playing regular NRL at the moment, and he’s 28, so he’s the right sort of profile for us. He just looks like absolutely the perfect signing for us.”
“That’s not until next year, but he’s such a good front-rower, big, physical, carries the ball really well and from everything I hear about him, he’s a great bloke around the environment, so he’d be a great fit for us, I think.”
Revealing what his role could be next year, Powell revealed: “I’d see him probably as a starting front-rower. He adds a little bit of flexibility to our ability to use Mike (McMeeken) as a back-rower at times. I think that’s something I’ve considered and that we’ve done a little bit this year.
“I think he’d be awesome for the comp. I think he’s going to be a top-quality player for us.”
