The match review panel have reviewed the action from Round 18 of the Betfred Super League which saw a fiery encounter as Leeds Rhinos headed to Salford Red Devils which exploded into a scuffle at a scrum and of course you can always expect fireworks when Hull KR and Hull FC collide and the same can be said of the games between Warrington Wolves and St Helens.
Meanwhile, there was a controversial penalty for late contact as Wigan Warriors were stunned by Wakefield Trinity which begged the question would the match review panel have a look at the incident.
However, despite a fiery weekend in Super League it hasn’t been a busy week for the match review panel with only five players charged and four of them fined.
These were Jai Whitbread, Brad O’Neill, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Paul Seguier.
Unsurprisingly, the ban came from the clash between Salford Red Devils and the Leeds Rhinos but not for the scuffle.
Instead Oliver Partington has been banned for dangerous contact posing a threat to the head, neck and spine of his opponent.
The Match Review Panel explained:
“Dangerous Contact – A defending player makes contact with an opponent after the ball has been released by an opponent in a vulnerable position which causes flexion to the head, neck or spinal column on an attacking player, which poses an unacceptable risk of injury to that player.”
In total, these were the charges handed out by the Match Review Panel:
Oliver Partington (Salford Red Devils) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – 1 Match Penalty Notice
Jai Whitbread (Wakefield Trinity) – Grade B Dangerous Contact – ÂŁ250 Fine
Brad O’Neill (Wigan Warriors) – Grade A Dangerous Contact – ÂŁ250 Fine
