Wakefield Trinity have replaced outgoing Aussie star Tyson Smoothy with another, and have added Mason Teague to their roster for 2027.
Teague arrives on a two-year deal, and will slot into the hooker role after Smoothy landed a deal at Perth Bears, meaning he exits Belle Vue one season into a three-year deal.
Whilst the 23-year-old is less experienced and less high-profile than Smoothy was, boss Daryl Powell is confident his side have recruited an untapped gem, and he has been tipped to light up Super League.
Teague is currently enjoying life at Queensland Cup side Burleigh Bears, and has prior experience in the NRL with The Dolphins.
Fans will get to have an early look at the former Penrith Panthers junior as he lines up for the Cook Islands at this year’s Rugby League World Cup.
The recruit can also play loose forward, and will link up with promising star Harvey Smith to create a lethal hooker partnership at the club.

What Daryl Powell said about Wakefield Trinity’s latest overseas signing
Powell believes that Teague is the “perfect fit” for Wakefield, who still have one quota spot open, so could add another overseas player to their ranks.
He said: “[Teague] is a quality player and is right at the top of all of our data analysis. He comes highly recommended from all the character references we have gathered from Australia and we’re delighted to bring him to Wakefield Trinity to continue the development of what we believe is an outstanding team of not just now but the future.”
Trinity’s Director of Rugby, Ste Mills, added: “Mason is someone that has been top of our list to bring over to the club for a while now and when we started looking at our future in the nine position he was the first player we wanted.
“His transition into the nine position over the last 18 months has been nothing short of great and we see a lot of development in his game. From talking to Mason and his partner, we know we’ve made the correct decision and I can’t wait to see him over here in 2027.”
