Why Hull KR didn’t appeal ban as Peters refers to Warrington Wolves case

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters

Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has explained why the club didn’t appeal a ban for Jai Whitbread this week.

Jai Whitbread was sin-binned for a high shot against Wigan Warriors at the weekend, and has now been given a Grade C Head Contact charge, meaning he will miss a game against Leigh Leopards on Friday night.

While St Helens decided to appeal Matty Lees’ ban, the Robins didn’t do the same thing, and Willie Peters has explained, via the pre-match press conference: “You’d like to appeal it, but I think if you look at the ones previously and ask did he make contact to the head and all that sort of stuff.

“Well, yeah, there was contact to the head, so where do you go with it?

“I think Warrington a couple of weeks ago with Paul Vaughan’s probably an example. Yeah, it’s going to happen. Unfortunately, it’s going to happen.

“We’re trying to get it out of our game and players are working hard, staff and coaches are working hard to minimise that.

“Did he make contact with the head? Yeah, unfortunately, he did. Was it an accident? Yeah, absolutely it was, but they won’t take that on board.”

Despite Whitbread being out for the upcoming match, the Robins have had a duo of injury boosts ahead of Friday night.

Sauaso Sue suffered a wrist injury last week, but Peters said: “It’s good. We’ve got some decent news there, so he’ll be okay for the weekend, which is really, really positive.”

In addition, full-back Niall Evalds, who has been out with a calf injury, could return: “We’ll have a look later in the week. We’ll have to see how he trains during the week, and then we’ll make a decision later.

“He’s doing some training so we just have to work out towards the back end of the week if it’s enough for him to play this week.”

The RFL are becoming a laughing stock, it was more a case of Dupree’s head hitting Whitbread than a deliberate head contact. Are the RFL going to take action against Dupree for not going off for a HIA? No of course they are not as he plays for Wigan.
