Why George Williams will miss Warrington Wolves’ clash with Huddersfield Giants

Going into your 250th career appearance, the last thing you want is for something to step up and steal your thunder but that’s the case for George Williams today.

The halfback was set to feature at halfback for Warrington alongside Stefan Ratchford with new signing Matt Dufty at fullback.

However, the former Wigan stand-off won’t be playing in Huddersfield today after suffering a migraine.

According to Daryl Powell, Williams suffers very badly from the occasional migraine so much so he can’t look at the light resulting in his absence today in a big test against Ian Watson’s Huddersfield Giants.

Though he misses out on his 250th appearance, teammates Oliver Holmes and Jason Clark are both set for their own 250 landmarks today whilst the aforementioned Dufty makes his first Warrington appearance at fullback wearing the number 36 jersey.

Williams absence means Peter Mata’utia moves into the halves and Connor Wrench gets a deserved chance after scoring four tries in the reserves last week against Newcastle Thunder.

There’s a change at centre too for Huddersfield who are without Leroy Cudjoe. Thus, Ian Watson has named Josh Jones there despite his tendency to play back-row these days though he does have experience at centre.

Watson has gone for this option instead of playing Louis Senior who – like his brother Innes – can play in the centres.

Louis Senior has just returned from his loan at Hull KR who he’s set to join next season.
