Whitehead has dig at Cameron Smith following “scratch” comment

Canberra and England star Elliott Whitehead has had a dig at Cameron Smith, after the Melbourne Storm captain attempted to ridicule a leg injury Whitehead picked up when the two sides met at the weekend.

The 30-year-old sustained a cut to his knee and later posted a graphic video on his Instagram story showing it leaking with blood and pus.

Fox League posted footage of Storm hooker Smith complaining to the referee as Whitehead was having the injury treated to by a trainer.

He could be heard saying “My kids have bigger scratches than that.

“Fair dinkum, we’re stopping a rugby league game?”

The former Bradford back rower was able to play on for the full 80 minutes as the Raiders stunned Melbourne with a late try to put them 80 minutes away from the NRL Grand Final.

And Whitehead followed it up by posting the video, showing a member of Canberra’s medical staff piercing the injured area with a needle as blood and pus spews out.

He accompanied it with a caption saying “just a scratch” in response to Smith’s criticism.
