Whitehaven announce heart warming Christmas gesture

Christmas is the time of year when friends, families and communities come together and that is no different in the sport of rugby league.

One of the kindest and most caring sporting families in the world if the plights of Rob Burrow and Mose Masoe are anything to go by, it should come as no surprise when any team does something for others at this point.

Nonetheless, Whitehaven should be commended for the heart warming Christmas gesture they announced yesterday.

This comes after a huge 2021 from the club as they wrapped up a place in the top six of the Championship with 12 wins from 22 games giving supporters unlikely dreams of making the Million Pound Game. However, those dreams were dashed with defeat to Halifax in the opening week of the play-offs.

That didn’t take away from what was a brilliant 2021 for Whitehaven and they’re now ending the year with an attempt to help others in the community spreading the cheer they no doubt felt during a superb campaign.

The club are putting on a free Christmas dinner for those feeling isolated during the festive period at the LEL Arena on Thursday 23rd December hoping to give the community an opportunity to come together and provide a sense of togetherness for those with no one else at this time of year.

For anyone interested, all they have to do is contact the club whether through its social media pages or the club office.
