Where Jake Connor could fit into Brad Arthur’s Leeds Rhinos

Reportedly, Huddersfield Giants man Jake Connor could be heading to Leeds Rhinos next season.

He’s had a rough season, but looked good at full-back on occasion despite the Giants struggling in 2024.

Almost an ever-present this year, he certainly divides opinion, but is capable of real quality on his day.

The former Hull FC man has featured prominently both at fullback and at stand-off across his career, and there was talk that he would leave mid-season this year.

That would have been on loan, but now, it seems he could be leaving the Giants permanently, after a second spell at the club.

Yorkshire Live is reporting that he could be heading to Headingley next season, despite a loan move not materialising previously.

With Luke Robinson becoming head coach permanently next year, he can now make the changes that he wishes to make to the squad moving forward, and one of those things could be to let Jake Connor leave.

As well as full-back and in the halves  Connor has been utilised as a centre in the past, but it seems he’ll be signed as a half-back option.

Primarily a stand-off, he’ll provide competition for Brodie Croft and Matt Frawley, with Croft capable of moving to the number seven position.

This could mean he’s ahead of Jack Sinfield as an option in the halves  – and it would therefore make sense to send him on loan.

However, he could also provide competition for Lachie Miller’s fullback spot, with the Australian being very hot-and-cold with his performances this season: this could be a way to help him cut the error count down from his game.

The 2022 try assist-leader could be a smart signing by Brad Arthur, as he looks to build a squad that better challenges for the play-offs next year.
