Much of the London Broncos squad for their 2024 season in Super League was at the club on a one-year deal, so it is a group that has been largely split up ahead of 2025.
They’ll be back in the RFL Championship next year, as IMG grading came at just the wrong time for them.
The Broncos only managed three wins last year – but facing the likely and near-inevitable prospect of relegation before a ball was even kicked, their recruitment was hampered massively.
Many people doubted their ability to pick up even a single point, but the spirited group came close to wins against Leeds Rhinos and won the hearts of many across the year.
Now that this squad has been split apart, we’ve looked at where the players will be next year.
Who has re-signed for London Broncos next year?
Marcus Stock was quick to resign with the side, with the utility forward heading into his third year with the team. Meanwhile, Lewis Bienek is one of a healthy Irish contingent that will be at Plough Lane next year, with the former Castleford Tigers man heading into his seventh season with the club across multiple spells.
Other first-teamers that stay on include Sadiq Adebiyi and Alex Walker who have made over 150 London Broncos appearances between them, bringing more experience to the squad that is starting to take shape.
Will Lovell has also recently signed on again, a one-club man who has made 160 appearances for the Broncos, largely from the second-row position.
Harry Stevens, Jensen Monk and Sam Winney also pad the side out, bringing youth to the side – none of them have made a Super League appearance, but have featured in internationals, Challenge Cup games and Championship games between them.
Who has headed elsewhere?
So far, five players have earned them a Super League move for 2025. Bill Leyland and Lee Kershaw have both got big moves to Hull KR – despite the former not managing a Super League appearance due to injury.
Brother Oli Leyland will be a half-back option for Warrington Wolves next year, joining an equally ambitious and impressive squad.
Meanwhile, Josh Rourke has joined promoted Wakefield Trinity and Sam Davis has signed for Salford Red Devils.
A quartet will be lining up against them in RFL Championship action, with James Meadows and Emmanuel Waine joining Bradford Bulls and Jordan Williams joining fellow perennial promotion-hopefuls Featherstone Rovers.
Rob Butler swaps London for Toulouse Olympique – while a trio of Ethan Natoli, Ugo Tison and Hakim Miloudi are also signed on with a French side – albeit with Super XIII outfit Pia Donkeys.
Jack Campagnolo bucked the European trend, however, and is the sole player from the 2024 Super League squad to have found an Australian side, joining Townsville Blackhawks of the Queensland Cup.
Who has an unconfirmed future after leaving London Broncos?
There are six players yet to have a confirmed contract for next year.
Winger Ilies Macani has spent most of his career with the Broncos, and is one more likely to rejoin the side for next year as long as finances allow it.
Meanwhile, Robbie Storey, after time in picturesque places such as Wimbledon, Carcassonne and Castleford, is looking again for a home – with Bradford Bulls understood to be one of the clubs interested in a move.
Gideon Boafo spent much of last season at Whitehaven and is likely surplus to requirements at Plough Lane, and is likely in a similar position to
Matt Davies, Jack Hughes and Dan Hoyes.
However, a big pickup for a side could be Rhys Kennedy, with the former NRL and Hull KR prop yet to pen a contract for 2025.
Who has retired from rugby league?
Dean Parata will be a big loss for the Broncos next year, with the hooker retiring after three seasons with the side.
Meanwhile, Jarred Bassett has called time on his short professional career – playing amateur RL with West Warriors just four years ago and making the fastest rise from that point to playing in Super League of any player.
