When every Super League club last won major silverware

Super League

Hull KR brought an end to a 40-year trophy drought in 2025 and they did so in style.

The Robins not only got their hands on the Challenge Cup, but they went on to claim all three major trophies available to win in the Northern Hemisphere, bagging the League Leaders’ Shield and the Super League title.

The latter opened the door for KR to add to that trophy haul in February when they take on Brisbane Broncos in the World Club Challenge.

With KR’s trophy drought in mind, we thought we’d take a look back at when every Super League team last won a major piece of silverware.

It should be noted here that we have not included the 1895 Cup, the Championship Grand Final or any other competition played out beneath the top flight of English rugby league.

When every Super League side last won major silverware

Hull KR – 2025

The Robins’ last piece of major silverware came just two months ago when they won the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford with a 24-6 win over Wigan Warriors. It capped a history making season for the Robins and sealed the treble.

Wigan Warriors – 2024

Hull KR’s 2025 Grand Final win could be seen as revenge for their loss to Wigan in 2024. The Cherry and Whites won 9-2 on that occasion and that win completed a quadruple, a feat that had never before been achieved over the course of a calendar year in the Super League era.

Leigh Leopards – 2023

The Leopards ended a 41-year wait for major silverware by beating Hull KR in the 2023 Challenge Cup final and they did it in dramatic fashion with a Lachlan Lam drop goal in golden point sealing a 17-16 win at Wembley.

St Helens – 2023

This coming February will mark three years since St Helens last won a trophy, but what a moment it was for the club, seeing off Penrith Panthers 13-12 in the World Club Challenge Down Under.

Catalans Dragons – 2021

The Dragons won the Challenge Cup in 2018 but their last piece of the major silverware was the League Leaders’ Shield in 2021. The Dragons won 19 of their 23 regular season games but they couldn’t follow it up with a Grand Final win as they lost to St Helens at Old Trafford.

Leeds Rhinos – 2020

Next year marks six years since Leeds last won a trophy and Brad Arthur will be determined to bring that drought to a halt. Their last piece of silverware was the 2020 Challenge Cup which was played out during Covid in an empty Wembley Stadium.

The 2017 Grand Final was the last time Leeds won anything in front of a crowd.

Warrington Wolves – 2019

Warrington came within a whisker of ending their wait for a trophy this year as they took a lead into the final three minutes of the Challenge Cup final against Hull KR. A Tom Davies try in the 78th minute ensured they lost that game, though, meaning their last piece of silverware came in 2019 when they beat St Helens in the Challenge Cup final.

Castleford Tigers – 2017

Castleford haven’t made a habit of winning trophies in the Super League era, but they were the best team for so much of the 2017 season. Daryl Powell’s side won 25 of their 30 games, including the Super 8s to hit 50 points for the season to win the League Leaders’ Shield. Like Catalans above, though, they lost the Grand Final, with Leeds Rhinos being victorious on that occasion.

Hull FC – 2017

Hull FC didn’t just win the Challenge Cup in 2017, they retained it, having brought an end to their Wembley hoodoo a year previous. They beat Wigan Warriors in 2017 with the boot of Lance Todd Trophy winner Marc Sneyd proving to be the difference.

Huddersfield Giants – 2013

Next year will mark 13 years since Huddersfield last won a trophy, with the West Yorkshire side claiming the League Leaders’ Shield back in 2013. The Giants were the best side over the course of the regular season and finished top with 42 points, but they lost to Warrington Wolves in the play-off semi-finals.

Bradford Bulls – 2006

Bradford won the League One play-offs in 2018 an the 2016 Championship Shield, but their last piece of major silverware came back in 2006 when they beat Wests Tigers in the World Club Challenge in Huddersfield.

Wakefield Trinity – 1992

Wakefield fans will have recent memories of seeing their side lift silverware with the club winning the Championship Grand Final and the 1895 Cup in 2024. However, their last piece of silverware available to a top flight club came in 1992 when they won the Yorkshire Cup. If that isn’t ‘major’ enough for you, Wakefield’s last league title win came in 1968.

Toulouse Olympique – N/A

Toulouse have never won a major piece of silverware in the British game. However, they do have a full trophy cabinet, having won two Championship Grand Finals and  six French titles, with their last coming in 2015.

York Knights – N/A

Like Toulouse, York have never won a major trophy. They are the 1895 Cup holders, though, and prior to the original York club folding in 2002, the last trophy they won was the 1936-37 Yorkshire Cup.
