St Helens have bolstered their ranks further today with the signing of Kyle Feldt.
Feldt, now 32 years-old, has been with the North Queensland Cowboys for his entire professional career, playing over 200 games for the NRL side.
He has also represented Australia in nines, but not for the full 13-a-side team.
In 2015, he was part of the Premiership winning side and in 2016, won the World Club Challenge.
This year, he has had an impressive campaign again – breaking Matt Bowen’s club record for tries and notably scoring a hattrick in a victory over Cronulla Sharks.
However, the former Queensland State of Origin representative will next year be lining up for Paul Wellens’ side.
What Paul Wellens said about St Helens’ new signing
Paul Wellens commented on the signing of Feldt and said: “We are always looking to add quality to our squad and in Kyle we feel we have got exactly that, an experienced and very good player who no doubt will improve us as a team. So, I am very excited to have him as part of our squad for 2025.
“Losing a top player with experience like Tommy [Makinson], who knows what it’s like to compete in big games, you have to look for someone with the same qualities. Kyle is exactly that, as an experienced player, a great ball carrier, a wonderful finisher, and he can kick goals too. He will add a lot to St.Helens.”
“You look for players who will perform well and will add to our group, after having discussions with Kyle I know that another part of his role will be working alongside our younger outside backs, helping them develop and Kyle’s comfortable doing that type of work, whilst coming to perform at his best and help the team be successful.”
After Saints’ disappointing campaign this season, they’ll hope their coaching team of Paul Wellens and Lee Briers can get the best out of Feldt.
If they can, they look like a very different prospect for 2025.
