What happened with Ryan Brierley at Hull KR following Leeds Rhinos interest

This week Jack Walker’s surprise move to Bradford Bulls was confirmed and last night the man who masterminded the move, Walker’s agent and top rugby league agent, Craig Harrison, produced a fantastic special on YouTube called Inside the Deal on his channel Show Me The Money Rugby League TV. It’s well worth the watch.

During the break down of the deal, Harrison praised Walker for his lack of ego, saying that sometimes as a rugby league player you’ve just got to put ego aside and say that you want to play rugby league.

This is exactly what Ryan Brierley did when he got the move to Hull KR.

Harrison revealed that Brierley was on a relatively small wage at Craven Park but was still keen on the move having turned down interest from Leeds Rhinos earlier in his career.

Why? Because he wanted to show Super League what he could do believing it could “change his life.” So, the wage didn’t matter to Brierley, it was all about proving what he could do which is what Walker will himself try to do.

However, Harrison revealed that this didn’t pay off for Brierley at Hull KR and that the now Salford pivot was surprised.

Harrison said: “Ryan Brierley was wanted by Leeds at one point but he went to Hull KR on quite a small wage and he said ‘I don’t care, I know if I do well it will change my life.’ And he thought he’d done well but Hull KR didn’t offer him a deal and he couldn’t believe it.”

Harrison believes now that Brierley has gone on to prove people wrong especially on the back of the year he’s had at Salford playing a key role in their semi-final appearance: “Ryan has proven a lot of people wrong especially this year, he’s had an unbelievable year.”

You can watch the fantastic show here and learn the ins and outs of Walker’s deal with Bradford.
