What Adrian Lam said to Leigh Centurions players in changing room after promotion

Leigh Centurions are on their way to Super League again in 2023 after they beat Batley in the Championship Grand Final 44-12 to punctuate an incredible journey.

Following relegation in 2021, they appointed former Wigan boss Adrian Lam who at the time only had seven players in his squad.

Many tipped Featherstone to therefore tip Leigh to promotion, however the assembling of a star-studded squad and superb character from the Centurions has seen them storm back to Super League.

An emotional journey for the Centurions, it would be fantastic to get an insight into what happened in the changing rooms after the game to see those raw emotions at their fullest.

Well thanks to the Leigh Centurions Twitter page we can see what coach Adrian Lam said to his side following the defeat with footage from the dressing rooms after the win.

He said to his elated squad: “Seven players in December, as the season has built up we’ve got everyone in. The hard part was trying to get a group together, men who believe in each other, care about each other and play f0r each other.

“At the end of the day, it was unbelievable what we achieved this year. All the statistics and everything, you’re a super bunch and we’re going up to Super League” and that catalysed superb celebrations.

It was a vindicating moment for Lam who said on Premier Sports it was a risk joining Leigh having guided Wigan to a Grand Final in 2020: “When I first signed there’s always risk when thinking about taking a step backwards and coaching in the Championship. It’s always a risk to do that, but there’s also some positives and part of that was that we could build a side that could compete and with that came convincing the Leigh crowd that things were on the up.

“The conversations I’ve had with Derek Beaumont and Chris Chester have been so positive and brought some credibility back to the town.”

He also explained that he’s not even thinking about a relegation battle whilst speaking about recruitment confirming that “a lot” of players will be coming through the door: “For me I don’t want to talk about the relegation side of things, I won’t go down that path. I’m more about building and having that belief in what we do and making everyone understand what we want to do.

“We’ve invested well, there’s a lot of players coming next year. We have an understanding with the owners of where we want to be and as long as we get the right people into positions but there will be a bit of a rotation of players.”
