“What a ride” – Brad Dwyer thanks Leeds Rhinos fans as he looks forward to one last hoorah

Brad Dwyer perhaps had the toughest job in Super League when he arrived at Leeds.

Why? Because he was tasked with being the livewire hooker to come on and change games filling the role that Rob Burrow left when he retired in 2017.

Somehow, Dwyer stepped up providing plenty of amazing moments, helping the Rhinos to the Challenge Cup in 2020 and pulling off some scintillating tries at key moments of his Leeds career.

He even nailed a decisive drop goal in a derby win over Castleford in 2019. A one man highlights reel and a man Leeds fans won’t forget in a hurry, his Rhinos career is all but over with the hooker set to join Hull FC in 2023 as Tony Smith begins his rebuild of the Black and Whites.

Dwyer didn’t get his fairytale ending being left out of Leeds’ three play-off games including the Grand Final due to the form of Jarrod O’Connor and Kruise Leeming at hooker.

However, this hasn’t stopped him from reflecting on a remarkable season in which Leeds were second bottom in April nor has it stopped him from thanking the Leeds fans.

He’s also looking forward to seeing them one last time as Leeds prepare for their final game of 2023 against New Zealand helping the Kiwis to prepare for the World Cup.

On all of this, Dwyer took to Twitter to say: “What a ride … one that won’t be forgotten. From fighting for relegation mid season to the Grand Final. Some turn out from Leeds Rhinos fans.

“The boys had a right crack just wasn’t enough. See you all one last time at the NZ game.”

A great servant to the Rhinos since 2018, now he’s set to make a splash at Hull FC after making his farewell against New Zealand a week on Saturday.

It should be a great occasion as Leeds say goodbye to the likes of Liam Sutcliffe and Tom Briscoe as well.
