Wests Tigers prepared to pay $900k to get Super League-linked man off their books

Wests Tigers are reportedly willing to pay a whopping $900,000 to get one Super League-linked man off their books.

Having signed Jarome Luai from Penrith Panthers on a deal worth a reported $5 million and with young prodigy Lachlan Gavin coming through, Wests Tigers have found Jayden Sullivan surplus to requirements just one year into his four-year deal.

The problem for Wests is that it is a four-year deal worth a reported $2.4 million but per new reports from The Daily Telegraph, the club are prepared to pay half of the remaining $1.8 million in order to get Sullivan off their books.

That would see any club who move for Sullivan pay $300,000, approximately £150,000, which would be within the range of some Super League clubs.

The 23-year-old only played eight games in 2024 with Wests only winning one of those as Sullivan sunk behind the likes of Aiden Sezer on the depth chart. After being previously linked to Super League, news of Wests’ willingness to pay half of his wages could see heads turn at half-back needy clubs.

Could Jayden Sullivan find his way to Super League?

When reports first emerged that Sullivan was out of favour at Wests and could find his way to Super League, Hull FC were one of the linked teams.

Since then, the Black and Whites have actually signed Sullivan’s teammate and former Super League man Aiden Sezer with John Cartwright being the man who gave Sezer his NRL debut back at Gold Coast.

Other teams linked included Salford Red Devils but they saw Jayden Nikorima fall into their lap after his Catalans Dragons signing so they won’t be in the market.

Of course, Sullivan would fill a quota spot and there are only a handful of Super League sides with available quota spots but one of those teams have just lost a playmaker.

Leigh Leopards have seen Matt Moylan retire leaving them with both a quota and a playmaker role to fill, possibly providing Sullivan with a Super League option if he does not find an NRL lifeline.

Derek Beaumont recently spoke on the difficulty of recruiting so late in the window so it could be that news of Wests’ willingness to get rid of Sullivan has come at the perfect time.
