“We’re a couple of wins away” – Warrington Wolves signing Thomas Mikaele ready for the challenge

Warrington’s newest signing Thomas Mikaele landed in the UK this week and was a much needed lift for the club.

In poor form with the play-offs slipping away, the Wolves’ misery was compounded by a 40-4 defeat to Leeds last Friday marring fellow new recruit Kyle Amor’s debut on loan from St Helens.

Mikaele, like Amor, is a big powerful forward and will give Daryl Powell – who insisted the Wolves are “in a good place” despite the defeat – more firepower for the rest of 2022 and beyond.

Having arrived in the UK with a possible debut waiting away at Wakefield on Sunday in a must win game for the Wolves, Mikaele spoke to Wolves TV about the move having had a look at the field for the first time: “It’s pretty cool, I had a look at the field. I was just sort of imagining in my head what it’s going to be like real packed. A lot of fans here and the pitch looks great so first impressions are really good.”

Excited to see the fans, he’s also excited to play alongside Warrington’s stars: “When I came here there’s a lot of players that I’ve grown and watched over the last couple of years and seen them play international footy for England and Great Britain.”

He also shared Powell’s optimism believing the Wire are just a couple of wins away from turning their season around: “We’re a couple of wins away. I just want to win, you know. Winning makes everything easier.”
